WTC Qualifier 2017

This weekend I’ll be going to the qualifiers for the Danish WTC teams. I’m super motivated to go see the guys, but as for the game itself the feelings are more lukewarm. I’ve put together two lists that are somewhat fun to play, but my Nemo3 list is mostly what I own or knew I could borrow, because I’m not spending more on the game before it levels out and deals with the spam issues decisively.

.. be it Griffons, Mad Dogs or Gun-bunnies!

SR 2017 seems like a promising move, making infantry necessary in order to score in several scenarios, but that remains to be seen in action. I also don’t want to buy more models right now, as I can’t be sure they’ll be worth fielding when the next tournament arrives. I might be salty, but I did play Haley1/Caine2 in a tournament just the week before they got nerfed, and spent the entire week up to that buying and painting the things I would need – which were then mostly made irrelevant.

Lord Commander Stryker, Return of the Sword Knights
– Reinholdt
– Thorn
– Lancer
– Lancer
Major Harrison Gibbs
Archduke Runewood
Rhupert Carvolo
Sword Knights (Leader & 9 Grunts)
Sword Knights (Leader & 9 Grunts)
Trencher Infantry (Leader & 5 Grunts)
Alexia Ciannor & the Risen (Alexia & 9 Risen)
– Captain Jonas Murdoch
Objective: Bunker

In this list the Sword Knights found one life inadequate to deliver the amount of beating most enemies require, so they recruited Alexia1 to pick them back up. It’s been a while since I played this, but having MAT 8 / POW 11 Risen on the charge (Positive Charge + Runewood + Ragman) is a lot of fun. I quite like the assassination potential of Thorn as well, as 14″ threat with high MAT and solid PS coming from a light is surprising.

Nemo3, Punchbots 2000 (Heavy Metal, 2 / 2 Free Cards 75 / 75 Army)
– Finch
– Squire (Free)
– Dynamo
– Thunderhead
– Stormclad
– Centurion
– Firefly
– Firefly
Journeyman Warcaster (Free)
– Firefly
Arlan Strangeways (Free)
Field Mechaniks (Chief & 3 grunts)
Objective: Stockpile

This list is mostly raw violence, and a counter to the push/drag shenanigans. It’s not particularly optimized, but I quite like it. Jarles Nemo3 list is probably better, but I only own one Firefly, and I can only borrow two more, but his list has five. It has a lot of lightning damage, but also punches quite hard when the lines clash.

I’ve played the list twice, and lost one game due to dice not cooperating, but won the other on a grind. In the future I’ll likely be playing Nemo1 or Nemo2 a bit, but I promised to at least make a bit of an effort with this tournament. I quite like the potential of dropping Magnetic Hold, running a jack up, Force hammering it twice into the enemy caster, and the zapping him to death. The theoretical range on that move is 12″ run Firefly, 2d6″ Force Hammer, +4″ Electro Leap which is a LOT of threat range. It would work even better with more eLeaps in the list, but there we have the same issue as before: I don’t own more.

  1. I’ll be watching for word on you trying Nemo1, who is my favorite caster in the game. My current Nemo1 list is

    Commander Adept Nemo
    Journeyman Warcaster
    Arcane Tempest Rifleman
    Lanyssa Ryssyl, Nyss Sorceress
    Captain Arlan Strangewayes
    Tactical Arcanist Corps

    • I’ve already had one game with him, in Storm Division, using double Centurions, Lances/Laddermore, Jakes/Ironclad, Junior/Firefly, Arlan, and nine Stormsmiths. It needs tweaks, but it was alright ;)
