Stryker2: Sword Knights

So last night I ran into Goreshade3 recursion spam, with my Stryker2 infantry spam list, and it was a blast back to MK2 where two massive armies clashed in the middle, and just went all out melee crazy on each other. At one point roughly 60 models did battle in the middle, with my models being better and his recursion trying to turn the tide. I was slightly behind on recursion, way ahead on time, and bringing it home when I got myself assassinated because I forgot about his feat. Ah well, the core of the list is solid.

I had three lights (Thorn + 2x Firefly), 20 Sword Knights, 20 Trenchers, and some support, after Jon Chabots suggestion of trying Sword Knights in another post. Holy amazoballs those Sword Knights have Synergy with Stryker2. They’re MAT 6 / POW 10, but when near a Positive Charge Firefly they’re MAT 10 / POW 12 Weapon Masters, which is insane for their price. Sure they die to a stiff breeze, and PP might want to consider making their Defensive line apply to ranged attacks as well, but with Stryker2 and a Cloud Wall they’re spectacular.

Lord Commander Stryker
– Reinholdt
– Firefly
– Thorn
– Lancer
Major Harrison Gibbs
Rhupert Carvolo
Sword Knights (Leader & 9 Grunts)
Sword Knights (Leader & 9 Grunts)
Trencher Infantry (Leader & 9 Grunts)
Alexia Ciannor & the Risen (Alexia & 9 Risen)
– Captain Jonas Murdoch

This is the reworked version of the list. Reinholdt turned out to be great, since he allowed me to negate that one stealth model I needed gone, or as was the case last night – the stealth model I needed to throw Rebuke on (also the re-roll is nice for assassinations). I originally had two Fireflies, but I had two points left over and I thought I might upgrade one to another Lancer, to give me a throw-away Arc Node, and a more durable model for Positive Charge (also I already own one, so I won’t need to buy even more models).

The second strange inclusion is Alexia1 with Murdoch, but consider just how many Risen she can spawn, and then add Ragman and Positive Charge, turning every single Risen up to MAT 6 / POW 11, which is not bad at all. I also need them to run in and block/spend all Karchevs counter charges, since this list has to be able to play into Karchev. I quite like this list, and I’m looking forward to seeing how it works.

  1. So glad to see the sword knights making a splash across the pond! It’s so much fun to dust off Cygnar’s crappier turds and polish them up a bit.

    • They hit like old school Bane Thralls, with even more accuracy. I’m tempted to somehow get Runewood in the list, for hilarious MAT 13 charge attacks, but MAT 10 seems fine in most cases :D

      • Just depends on the role. MAT 13 seems excessive, unless you want them hunting down casters. They are just little murder machines at that point.

        • Something like a Circle heavy, behind a wall, with Star Crossed up. The Sword Knights would need to roll fairly well to hit that normally.

I also thought about Risen charging with MAT 8 (Path to Victory + Positive Charge) as being hilarious, but in last nights game it turned out to be really really good. Just being able to casually turn the Risen up to MAT 6 with PtV made them land a LOT of hits, and in the list where I spawned 11 Risen on one turn that’s a LOT of increase in accuracy.

I traded out my three lights for three Lancers, and it was pretty darn good, and three Shock Shields are better than one. More experimentation needed, but it seems like I’ve found something here.
