WTC 2016 qualifiers: Shits’n’giggles

Soooo this weekend we’re playing qualifiers for the 2016 WTC, and I’m participating on team ‘Pigs Might Fly’ to support the whole thing. The team name alludes to our actual shot at winning a spot in the WTC teams, but even if the pigs do fly I’m not participating.

The team is composed of Legion (Duskern), Menoth (Magnus), and Cygnar (me) which seems like a fairly strong setup until you get into the gritty details. Duskern is new to Legion, Magnus is rusty as fuck, and I’ve been playing Cygnar for two weeks…

  • Cain2 Vs. Vayl2 (Loss)
  • Haley1 Vs. Rahn (Loss)
  • Cain2 Vs. Skarre2 (Loss)
  • Stryker3 Vs. Grimm2 (Win)

There are two other teams we might stand a chance against, but more likely we’re going to end the tournament without winning a single round. The bottom line is that we’re going there to have fun, and seeing as this might very well be my last big tournament in MK2 it seems fitting to go out with a complete lack of ‘bang’.

GREAT SUCCESS!

I’ve been out with the big hat and borrowed no less than two colossals for the weekend, so I can play one of the absolutely most heinous Haley1 lists before it (hopefully) vanishes completely in MK3. I have not had the time to actually put it on the table in a game, so we’re going in blind as usual!

Captain Victoria Haley
– Stormwall
– Squire
Arcane Tempest Gun Mages (Leader and 5 Grunts)
– Arcane Tempest Gun Mage Officer
Gastone Crosse
– Galleon
Journeyman Warcaster
Master Gunner Dougal MacNaile

Objective: Bunker

Two Arcane Shielded Colossals and Temporal Barrier is just silly. I know it has some bad match-ups but it has some pretty darn good ones as well, and I know that several of the good teams have a Cryx player so here I come. Excuses for losing easy games may include ‘but I’ve never played this before’ or ‘rocks fell from the sky!’.

To back her up I’ve constructed a Stryker3 list. I know most Cygnar players consider Stryker3 sub-par but I think he looks bloody awesome… and winning my first game with him didn’t do anything to diminish that feeling.

Lord General Coleman Stryker
– Stormwall
– Squire
Arcane Tempest Gun Mages (Leader and 5 Grunts)
– Arcane Tempest Gun Mage Officer
Cylena Raefyll & Nyss Hunters (Cylena and 9 Grunts)
– Captain Jonas Murdoch
Lady Aiyana & Master Holt
Eiryss, Angel of Retribution
Journeyman Warcaster
Rhupert Carvolo, Piper of Ord
Stormsmith Stormcaller
Stormsmith Stormcaller

Objective: Effigy of Valor

This one is my own creation. I like the fact that it can shoot a lot and if someone ventures in to jam, I can feat and annihilate them with automatically hitting pseudo-weapon masters. The Nyss Hunters are scary ranged combatants with Dig In, and they can absolutely destroy anything that ventures within ten inches.

  • Feat
  • Fury

That’s automatically hitting charge attacks doing 5d6+12 damage. Even without A&H that’s silly levels of damage, and with Kiss they do more than 32 damage EACH on the charge. The Gun Mages turn from useless in melee into quite deadly on the charge, and since the Nyss don’t need terrain for cover the Gun Mages can get that and Dirge of Mists to keep safe.

Finally I love how the Stormwall can be either super accurate and focus efficient with Iron Aggression, hit like a truck with Fury, or stay safe with Arcane Shield. If something comes in that can take out the Stormwall the Nyss can charge in and nuke it.

So tune in to my twitter feed for updates, starting Saturday morning and ending on Sunday.
