Battle at Lund: 2016

It’s time to invade Sweden again. This time Lund is hosting a convention style event with a bunch of different tournaments, including the Swedish Masters – and I think it could be really funny to win that since the Swedes have taken our Danish Masters more than once.

Another showdown!

It’s been a while since I’ve actually tried to do well in a tournament, and while I’m happy with Deneghra3 I find myself needing a second list as per fucking usual. I’ve considered quite a few lists, but having spent the last year doing fun lists I find myself a bit out of practice, so I’m considering my good old Skarre1 Cavalry list.

Pirate Queen Skarre
– Cankerworm
Bane Riders (Leader and 4 Grunts)
Blackbane’s Ghost Raiders (Leader and 9 Grunts)
Mechanithralls (Leader and 5 Grunts)
Necrosurgeon (Necrosurgeon & 3 Stitch Thralls)
Satyxis Blood Witches (Leader and 9 Grunts)
– Satyxis Blood Hag
Soulhunters (Leader and 4 Grunts)
Darragh Wrathe
Saxon Orrik
Skarlock Thrall

The list mostly plays itself so I should be fine despite the lack of practice, and I played the list almost exclusively while training for the WTC so hopefully it’s like riding a bike. That should give me a fairly good setup in the masters and solo events, and since I’m not doing team tournaments I should be fine, which just leaves me with one tournament to build for: Who’s the boss!

Who is it… I mean who… really cmon guys, tell me!

I’ve never actually played this format before, and the space in my bags are limited so my choices will be dictated by the other lists I bring. It’s 35+5 points worth of army with no warcaster, but I do have to bring a Warcaster to put in the pile, and since I just painted up Scaverous he’s going to be my addition to the caster pile.

  • Skarlock: Should be obvious as a bunch of casters can benefit from it.
  • Blood Witches + Hag: Because they’re independent and awesome without any help.
  • Mechanithralls + Commander + double Necrosurgeons: Because recursion is great

That’s twenty points, leaving me with 15+5 and the basic infantry covered. Withershadow Combine should be good because a free upkeep can turn some casters up to awesome, and because they’re pretty darn good on their own of course.

  • Saxon Orrik: Because counting on getting a pathfinder caster is silly.
  • Ragman: Damage increase and more magical attacks.

Now I really need an Arc Node, because some casters need one to work and others go insane if they get one. Deathripper is already in the bag so he’s in, leaving me with 6+1 points to spend, and I think that should be a Reaper. The Reaper can go crazy with some casters, and it’s pretty solid even without help.

Some random dude
– Deathripper
– Reaper
Mechanithralls (Leader and 9 Grunts)
– Skarlock Commander
Necrosurgeon (Necrosurgeon & 3 Stitch Thralls)
Necrosurgeon (Necrosurgeon & 3 Stitch Thralls)
Satyxis Blood Witches (Leader and 9 Grunts)
– Satyxis Blood Hag
The Withershadow Combine
Saxon Orrik
Skarlock Thrall

I feel like this is a pretty solid list that can take and use almost any caster. Theoretically I can bring another list, but it’s going to be a tournament on Sunday – if I don’t qualify for one of the big ones – and I’m likely to be utterly exhausted at the time anyway, so unless something pops up before I leave for Sweden tomorrow I’ll just stick with one.

  1. Deathjack is also pretty nutso in this kind of event (easy switch for the battlegroup + downgrading a Surgeon to a Skarlock Commander or something).

I think in the end I ran without a node and just took him, as most offensive spell setups are still pretty great with DJ, and then the value is still there if you don’t have the offensive spell list to support him (even cycling buffs is still a focus saver, plus he’s ARM cracking in case you don’t get much).

Get a great jack/battlegroup buff spell though (I got Full Tilt…mmmm) and suddenly your list gets a big increase in power.

Anyway I know your feelings on DJ are pretty mixed heh, but just thought I’d put the idea out there :)
