With Oktoberfest over and done with it’s time to look ahead. The main season of Danish tournaments has all but ended, though maybe an occasional local tournament will sneak in here and there, and I’ve got plenty of time to prepare for the big ones come spring.
The year of ‘fuck it’ was slow at first but the last couple of months it really started picking up speed. I thoroughly enjoyed fielding all the models I otherwise wouldn’t bother with, and I found a new love in the humble Scrap Thrall. I’ve done well in a few tournaments, and I’ve been steamrolled in others, but even losing badly was quite enjoyable as the lower bracket had much to offer in terms of new acquaintances and enjoyable games.
If all goes well, I’ll have Deneghra the Soul Weaver available in a few weeks, and due to my strange dislike of proxy models I haven’t had much table time with her yet so I’m looking forward to that. Trent Denison nailed the first ‘thing’ she could bring to Cryx, and it happens to be four amazing little Helldivers so of course I’ve ordered two more to swell the ranks.
I’ve also ordered six Soul Trappers, but sadly I forgot to order the full complement of Swamp Gobber Rivers Raiders, and since I’m not going to pay for international transport twice they’ll have to wait for the danish distribution to come around. You’ll have to wait a bit for the actual list since I’m not nearly done considering it, but if you need inspiration Trents list seems quite solid with Nyss, Blood Witches, Wrong Eye & Snapjaw, Helldivers and support.
In the mean time I have some more Un-mothballing to deal with, despite being quite low on models I own but haven’t used in the last year(s). I have a massive conversion project I never finished, where I was trying to make the Black Ogrun Boarding Party look good, but the trial model took ages to finish and they didn’t perform all that well on the table, but that’s one possible option I could pursue.
I also got General Slaughterborn killed twice this weekend, and the only thing he had to show for it was a single Stormcaller kill, so assuming I want to keep playing him until he actually does something I might as well throw the Bloodgorgers in there (PP, I need that Battle Driven UA soon). Croe’s Cutthroats haven’t seen much play either, and neither has Rorsh & Brine.
In truth the list of models I haven’t used in a while, besides the BOBP, looks a lot like my old Scaverous list. I recently assembled Scaverous, so maybe I should give him another spin. It seems like I pull him out of the box every year or so, and then quickly give up on him again, but maybe this time it’ll stick (unlikely, I know). Erebus hasn’t seen play in forever either, and I’ve actually never had him on the table with his true owner, so why the hell not. Let’s lose some more games with something like this, ‘cus the year ain’t over yet!

It might not be this week as every evening is booked already, but I’ll get around to it, unless of course Deneghra3 arrives first, in which case Scaverous might not make it out of the box this year. In any case I’m optimistic about the coming year of warmachine, and while it might not be another year of ‘fuck it’ I learned much from this one (on a personal level), and I hope to have just as much fun.
