Summertime is over!

The last couple of months I’ve had very little time for gaming, but the time I’ve had I spent playing around with The Soul Weaver. I’ve had quite a few games with her and so far she’s been rock solid, though primarily because every single game has ended with her beating some poor caster to death after knocking them down.

I tried plugging her into a lot of my established lists, but as expected the regular casters were better in lists built for them, and then I began messing about. I’ve tried melee swarms, ranged builds, and niche builds, but nothing really felt right. Then I began experimenting with a handful of heavies, more specifically the mythical Inflictors.

I’m nowhere near done with her, and I don’t feel like I’ve cracked her yet, but I think a bunch of cheap reach heavies (Inflictors and perhaps even Reapers) will form the core of my Soul Weaver lists for some time, but the coming months won’t leave me much time to play with her as it’s tournament time.

Tournament time!

There will be several local tournaments the coming months, but I’m especially excited about the last tournament in August because it’s so radically different than what I normally attend. The tournament is going to be a 2v2 tournament, where each team consists of a veteran and a rookie. The lists are 15 points lists (so 30 points +2 casters per side) and each team is only allowed to feat once during a game, though it can be either casters feat of course.

I’ve heard that at least one wife is being taught the game, and I’ve joined forces with a rookie mercenary player. We’ve designed a spectacular list, which I’ll reveal when it’s to late for the opposition to change anything! It’s exceptionally rare for something like that to actually attract players in Denmark (don’t ask me why, I have no idea), but the local meta in Silkeborg (about 50 kilometers from Aarhus), or more specifically their main organizer Finn, is quickly building a reputation for hosting some of the most interesting and relaxed tournaments in the country.

In early October there will be an event called Giant Fanatic, where nerds from all over Denmark converge and do battle in a bunch of different games, and all the big boys from the Danish meta (and a few of the big bad swedes) have already signed up. It’s always risky hosting a large event in tiny Denmark, and just one week after the WTC so there will be a bunch of players with battle-fatigue, but fingers crossed it’ll turn out well anyway.

Finally there’ll be a couple of local tournaments with 8-16 players, so hopefully I’ll have something to write about now that the summer lull is over!

Cheers

  1. It really sucks that I can’t attend Giant Fanatic. It’s been a while since I’ve been at a tournament, and then it turns out that I’m booked to play a gig with the band in the same city as the tournament Saturday night /:

  2. The inflictor is clearly a shoe-in. Do we have any good alternatives to avoid being shot off the table before they come out? Have you concerted reapers and/ or leviathans with her?

    • We can run a couple of Ogrun Bokurs, but generally speaking the Inflictor is a whole new beast and we have nothing that does the same.

Reapers might work, but they have a lot of issues. They don’t power themselves which means using D3s focus for running, which leaves her dangerously low if you need to power 4-6 jacks. The Reapers have lower ARM, which leaves them vulnerable to low powered guns, and they have no way of protecting any Necrotechs following them around.

I won’t rule out the Leviathans either, but generally speaking the Leviathans need several turns to grind down the enemy heavies, and against a list without souls D3 can only really power them all once (assuming 2-3 Leviathans). There are also some activation sequence even if you have souls available, and the fact that she has very little control if you spend all your points on Leviathans.
