WTC weekend

Can’t sleep so I might as well post some updates. Yesterday our little WTC training weekend began, and I’m having a blast! The sun is shining, beers are flowing freely, the food is great, and the people are even better (yes even the Swedes!).

Sizzling hot!

Evening games (Benjamin Vs. Christoffer Wedding)

More evening games (Simon Vs. Andreas Holm)

I’ve tweaked my Deneghra2 list a bit, though I’m still not sure I’ve really nailed it, and I’ve had had two fantastic games already. I played my Skarre1 list against Severius1 and rolled him, but the interesting thing is the Deneghra2 Vs. Haley1 game.

Wraith Witch Deneghra
– Nightwretch
– Nightwretch
– Leviathan
– Leviathan
Aiakos, Scourge of Meredius
– Leviathan
Cylena Raefyll & Nyss Hunters (Cylena and 9 Grunts)
Necrotech (Necrotech & 1 Scrap Thrall)
Necrotech (Necrotech & 1 Scrap Thrall)
Necrotech (Necrotech & 1 Scrap Thrall)
Scrap Thralls (3)
Scrap Thralls (3)
Scrap Thralls (3)
Skarlock Thrall

The loss of a Warwitch Siren is noticeable, and perhaps not a very good idea, but having three Necrotechs  is FUN, and 12 Scrap Thralls can really get some stupidity going.

Nyss Hunters are gold with Deneghra2 as always, and Hunter allows the list some game against a wider range of opponents. In games against anti-infantry lists, they can hold back and be a second wave shooting unit, which I think could work (still in it’s testing phase infancy).

This was my first ever game against my newest team mate Benjamin, who took second in last years Danish Masters right ahead of me, and he’s been a Cryx player for a long time so he knows our faction well. I asked him for a Deneghra2 Vs. Haley1 game, since I think the Naval Company might not be an auto-loss against Haley1.

Captain Victoria Haley
– Stormwall
Arcane Tempest Gun Mages (Leader and 5 Grunts)
– Arcane Tempest Gun Mage Officer
— Hunter
Stormblade Infantry (Leader and 5 Grunts)
– Stormblade Infantry Officer & Standard
– 3 Stormblade Infantry Storm Gunner
Captain Arlan Strangewayes
Ogrun Bokur
Stormsmith Stormcaller
Stormsmith Stormcaller

A little experimental perhaps, but it’s still Haley1 with a Stormwall and Gun Mages. I won the roll and elected to start, trying to get as far across the table as I could before the Temporal Barrier came up. The good thing about my list is, that it actually doesn’t care much about TB, but I still needed to take some terrain and threaten scenario.

This looks like a job for…

Hell mother@£$3¤%&mouth baby. The SB on the hill is in there with others as well, he just kept falling down!

7 Stormblades… I’ll take that for an Arc Node

He moves up aggressively, but bunches up a bit much in preparation for a fusillade, but Deneghra2 has spells as well, so instead of powering up the Leviathans I throw in a Hellmouth and wipe out seven Stormblades, including all the Storm Gunners.

Turn three (Cryx)

He feats at me and rains death and destruction, but the Leviathans stay the course and who cares about Scrap Thralls. He puts up TB and places Haley1 so I can’t debuff the Stormwall, which puts me in a conundrum. The three Leviathans likely won’t kill the Arcane Shielded Stormwall without CoS, but not shooting it seems silly as well.

I messed up PLENTY in this round as well, screwing up activation sequences, forgetting to repair my Leviathans before sending them up to castle for Deneghra, and generally being really dumb about a lot of things. On the right flank the Nyss Hunters are doing their best to flank his list, and manage to snipe the Squire (WIN!), and I feat to keep the Stormwall away from melee-ing my Leviathans, and to keep Haley in place.

Another Hellmouth removes five Gun Mages

Not in this picture is the fact that I moved up Aiakos to behind the wall in front of my objective, within striking range of Haley since Aiakos couldn’t care less about TB anyway. Again I don’t get much shooting done, as I use a Hellmouth on the Hunter to wipe out five Gun Mages, but I still have a big fat problem in the middle of the zone to deal with, and my Leviathans are getting worn thin.

My left Leviathan (Aiakos) is down to a few boxes of movement, my right Leviathan dies, and the center Leviathan loses cortex, which seals the deal: I have to kill Haley since I can’t touch the Stormwall. I move up my remaining Arc Node, who by the way had almost 20 boxes repaired during this game, and at one point was down to 1 box, to apply Marked for Death on Haley1.

7 Focus equals three castings on MFD, and she can only cancel two of them. The Nyss Hunters begin doing two man combines trying to force him to use his Shield Guard, and plinking away finally forces him to Shield Guard, opening up for a kill. Everything then promptly fails to harm her, until Aiakos jumps in and Harpoons her to death (gotta love that guy).

Now I felt that Benjamin made some mistakes in this game, but I also feel that I finally have a list that won’t automatically lose to Haley1. This has been my holy grail for years, and though more testing is needed (like how would my Leviathans do against a full unit of Tempest Blazers on feat round), I think I’m on to something here.

In addition the list has some SERIOUS dark horse factor going for it, which is never a bad thing. Now I have to drive the missus to an early morning train, and then try for a nap, but I’ll keep spamming updates on twitter when I return to the guys for more rounds of beer and dice.

  1. Lamoron.. anything that prevents charging prevents jumpingaswell, check Aiakos card ;P

    • I hate TB so much. In this particular instance she was 11.8 inches away (I measured when trying to jump into melee), so I would have killed her anyway, but it’s nice to know.

  2. Noticed a couple of models on the stormwalls base…whats happening there, I didn’t think anything could be on anything else’s base?

  3. I’m not sure how well this would pair with my current go-to list of Mortenebra Tier4 running Harrowers (not that it has an awful pHaley matchup on its own, it’s not what I’d call good). I like this list for its Cygnar matchup, and it FEELS like it has an awesome Legion matchup as well with all the Leviathans and Nyss. I’m not sold on the scrap spam in this list, it feels like it just gives their guns that can’t hurt much else something to kill.

My gut says it would pair well with Terminus.
