Lund Emancipation: 3

I had my first game with the Skarre1 list, and while it was against a rookie opponent I got a feel for the list as a whole, and this was my reaction…

This might very well end up being something truly amazing. The sheer stupid brutality of a melee list where you can run the first wave into charge range of the enemy, because there’s twenty of them and they’re all Incorporeal, is downright silly powerful.

The following round the Soulhunters and Ghost Raiders can potentially charge through the lines, and with feat and Dark Guidance it’s going to end in tears… Blood Witches, Bane Riders, and Mechanithralls impact the lines while building a castle for Skarre to camp in, and with massive ARM everywhere it’s hard to get in there.

Steelheads are of course Bane Riders…

I was initially a bit shocked at the number of models on the board, and deployment is going to be a nightmare in most games, but the list has enough to speed to spread out in the first turn, and moving all the models wasn’t nearly as time consuming as I thought it would be.

To advance into charge range, or not to advance into charge range…

The Helldivers did absolutely nothing in this game, because the rest of the list simply left them in the dust and never came back. I got one Helldiver into contact with one enemy model, when it emerged during the final round, and there was absolutely no reason to activate him at all, because I had two Soulhunters in charge range of Jarl, and Jarl was already pretty badly mauled.

I’ll give the dirt dolphins a few more games before deciding anything, but in this game they just never really made it to the action! The Necrosurgeon on the other hand, produced some mad Mechanithralls, and they cleaned out almost a full unit of Fenn Blades on feat round (also one of them hit the Bomber with a feat powered combo strike… POW 20 charges are silly!), with Dark Guidance up, and the Blood Hag running into the middle of everything.

Bane Riders wiped the floor with his Long Riders, but that was mostly because of poor play around the forest, and because they got free strikes and got lit on fire from the Ghost Raiders. The game had been way different if he had brought a stone to negate all the Incorporeal, but then again this list is not designed to fight the trolls… that’s Deneghras job.

  1. I’d almost recommend the scavengers instead of the helldivers.

  2. Out of interest did you use the blood witch mini feat first turn? So you would have blood witches and blackbanes incorporeal at the front, bane riders, soul hunters and mechthralls 2nd line?

  4. I’m considering switching the Helldiver for Cankerworm. The AD and higher speed should mean it can keep up with the rest of the list, and a feat powered Cankerworm is pretty darn brutal (takes out about half a heavy).

  5. PSkarre approves of harrower. It keeps the game honest and provides a juicy base to hide behind while advancing.

  6. Stalkers for maximizing the number of attacks on feat turn?

    • Problem is, that I have six warjack points, which means I need to spend at least five of them, so one Stalker wouldn’t cut it, and finding those two additional points would diminish the list as a whole.

  7. Actually you only need to use 4 of her warjack points so long as you use all of the other 50.

    You can play 2 points down.

  8. Aren’t Slayers 6 point heavies that on feat turn stop having pillows for hands with 3 base attacks?

    • Yes but that only applies if it still has it’s arms by the time it gets to the enemy and you get to pop your feat. I would rather take a 4pt jack with stealth.

      • Yup. Hand cannons (POW 12) have no problem blowing off the Slayer’s arms.

        The little 3-pointers that can’t be hurt or the 4-pointer with Stealth are probably the best bets.

        • Cankerworm also has stealth, and becomes ‘the little tank that could‘ on feat turn (especially if I can get Beyond Death in there as well).

          A Stalker becomes 16/18 which is very good, but the low number of boxes and poor grid, compared to the higher armor, additional boxes, and fantastic grid of the Cankerworm isn’t.

          Cankerworm also has a better chance at getting to where he’s going, and getting out of there again after the feat turn, and of course he’s just more fun if you get to steal something interesting :D

          Don’t get me wrong, I love Stalkers, but I don’t see them synergizing well with this list (it’s an assassination tool in an attrition list), but if Cankerworm fails badly I’ll give them the benefit of doubt and try them out :D

  9. I had another game with the list, and it seems that I unintentionally solved the Morvahna2 issue I had as well…

    The list has more than twenty models that can RFP living models (Blood Witches & Ghost Raiders). That is really nasty considering that Morvahna2 relies on that attrition advantage to win.

    The net-decked Morvahna2 list also has very few magic attacks, so the same 20+ models that can RFP are pretty easy to keep alive/undead. Bane Riders with Skarres feat take care of the Woldwrath, and Cankerworm is stupidly destructive on feat round as well.

    It was a complete steamroll, which is exceptionally rare when I’m playing against Jan, whom I consider a slightly better tactician than myself, but this match-up was simply horrible for him.

    Cankerworm didn’t physically do much this game, but he was like a little angry terrier keeping the elephant at bay, when he was facing down the Woldwrath. I did the math, and on feat turn a fully loaded Cankerworm does about 26-27 damage to the Woldwrath, which is insane considering it’s a 5 point light.

    I love this list, and for the first time since character restrictions were introduced I’m generally happy with my list setup!

  10. God I want you to run WE&S over DJ but to each their own…
    Although snappy let’s you bring a bokur and god does she want one.
