We are Legion!

There’s an invasion going on right now, as a host of new Legion players are taking the field in Aarhus (the city I live in). An interesting side effect is, that I got to see how my list performed even before fielding it, as one of the other new Legion players used it with some minor cosmetic changes.

It feels a bit strange to have someone play my list before I ever did but what the hell. It seems the dual Angel pVayl core concept is solid, the Scythean and Naga countered the Colossal like they were supposed to, and it seemed to be working as intended. My new list is a bit more flexible with some added tricks, but looks and feels really weird.

Vayl, Disciple of Everblight
– Naga Nightlurker
– Nephilim Soldier
– Shredder
– Angelius
– Angelius
– Scythean
Blackfrost Shard
Farrow Bone Grinders (Leader and 3 Grunts)
Spawning Vessel (Leader and 5 Grunts)
Swamp Gobber Bellows Crew (Leader and 1 Grunt)
Spell Martyr
Spell Martyr
The Forsaken
The Forsaken

The Bone Grinder grunts go in the pot on the first turn and turn into a Stinger. The Stinger then gets Tenacity and digs in somewhere useful. That’s DEF 18, ARM 13, and Immunity to blast damage, and it’s parked up to about 16″ from the deployment zone, which is as far as a Shredder could run. In addition I get a Bone Grinder Shaman for free, though he might flee and never do anything, but hey… he’s free.

Increased move on the first round, and possibly a free support model… sounds good to me, and it gives the Scythean something to do. I’m unsure about the Spell Martyrs, but I’ll give them a shot, and if nothing else they can fight a bit or go in the pot, so it’s not a huge loss. Now I just have to figure out reinforcements and receive all the models that are still en route. Reinforcements are currently stuck in the bad-ass image of a Strider Deathstalker with two Raeks, which would be a pretty lousy setup but look awesome.

  1. I really like the idea of using the Bonegrinders for going into the pot, and the leader can do some nice stuff. Feels so EVIL to use them that way xD

Vayl: “Hey guys, wanna come fight with use next Saturday?”

Bonegrinder leader: “Hmm, I dno… what’s in it for us?”

Vayl: “You get some free food… and stuff…”

Bonegrinder leader: “Yea ok, see ya next Saturday then”.

Around noon the next Saturday the Bonegrinder leader is the only guy left in the unit and he’s not really too happy about all the blight and shit, and the fact that his three friends, Johnny, Donnie and Bonnie are now running up the field in their new blighted form… Inside he’s like “WTF VAYL!!! 1 11 1”, but atm, he’s not too keen on walking over to Vayl and saying that… He too could easily go into the pot if he’s not careful…

    • This stew… tastes funny…

      • Farrows+Vessel= Pork Stew…

It is an interesting list, but if possible I would think about dropping one martyr for a shepherd. Forsaken have a limited amount of fury they can remove and they need to get rid of it somewhere down the road.

Not to mention that you can heal a beast w/o activating vayl, which is pretty golden for activation sequences.

  2. The bone grinders are definitely interesting but in a SR format I’m not sure if they’ll be worth the time for all of the rolls, especially with Vayl requiring extra time for her feat. In a casual setting, yeah it’s totally worth doing (hooray for competitive options also being fluffy!) but I just worry that the extra mileage you get out of a “free” bone grinder might not be worth it, especially if you just went with pVayl’s theme list (one of the best out there, in my opinion).

    • I also think that the Swamp Gobbers might be worth dropping for a shepherd, since Vayl already has concealment.

      • They’re not for her. If I go second they’re a safety net for the Angels, as Tenacity + Concealment makes them very hard to shoot, and if I go first they’ll make sure at least one of the Angels has a safe(r) haven to return to with C&M on a later turn.

    • I usually finish my games with at least ten minutes left on the clock when I know what I’m doing, and thats running lists with twice the number of models.

I guess I’ll be pressed for time in the beginning, until I find my way around Legion, but after that I don’t think it’ll be a problem, and if it is I can always go back :)

  3. Some day, I want to field the Legionair brick with eThagrosh, throw Dragon’s Blood on them, Tenacity on the front line, use Zombify from the Witch Doctor, mini-feat, and Defensive line.

Defense 13 and Set Defense, ARM 23, Tough, Immune to KD & Stationary, Mage Static, and if he manages to kill a couple they go in the pot and I activate Vengeance.

I also want to do this against someone without Purification or Eiryss in their list!
