Better late than never. The third round was against Retribution led by Rahn and he had Cryptonite with him in the form of a Mage Hunter Assassin (thank god there was just one). Personally I would have chosen Garryth but Mads O had decided that Garryth could burn in the soul numbing hell pit that spawned him and went with Rahn. This would be a game of “not losing on scenario” then.

There’s a vast ocean of difference between Mads and I when it comes to Warmachine, and never was that more clear to me than when he put down a 49 point army in a 50 point tournament. I love playing games with him, but he regularly beats me with some random models he found on the floor when he woke up after three hours of sleep, and turning up without spending all your points is just an insult! :D
Again I won the roll to go first and did so. The scenario was Incoming which is a piece of crap, and playing defensively is actually worth it with ranged armies. I had a caster that couldn’t camp the flag and do offense as well so I’d rather get up there and push him while I had the chance. I also decided that my stealth army should be able to survive what he had to throw at me so I might as well just get going. The Machine Wraiths took one look at his list and decided that it was just not going to be their game with magical shooting from one end of the line to the other. I ran up.
He runs his things up and shoots… well nothing… and in my turn two I run up and enter his kill zone. The torso fell of his Phoenix so the pair of legs parked in front of my army is the Phoenix. This picture was taken after my turn so he’s in no danger there. The Stormfall Archers did nothing the entire game, but as Mads said “they’re in the list to shoot things like Nyss Hunters, not ARM 15 Tough Bane Thralls“.
Turns out I placed Terminus in mortal danger… go figure. When this picture was taken Mads had blown away a pile of things like expected, moved Terminus out front with Telekinesis and hit him with an avalanche of spells (not expected!!!). Terminus was knocked down, on fire, with his back turned, and had taken 4 damage. Then the Mage Hunter Assassin came at him but thank god she couldn’t avoid getting within Beyond Death range from Darragh Wrath, and A&H were out of range with Kiss.
16 boxes left, doubles damage that beats armor, dice -11 on damage, so he needed to roll 19 on 4d6. If he had been outside Beyond Death it would have been 17, and had A&H been within range it would have been 15, and he rolled 16 and left me with 6 boxes and seriously clammy hands. I was still on fire and knocked down but at that point it was game over with all the souls he had moved within range unless the fire managed boxcars which it didn’t.
My turn came around and I just took out everything he had that could actually hurt me while juicing up on souls, and the following round Rahn had no where to go and turned into a puddle when Terminus came in with his 12 Focus. I didn’t even get to hit the Battle Engine but that thing isn’t nearly as bad as I thought.
Next up was eKaya run by Lars, who was a bit disappointed that he had to go up against me since we just had this exact match a couple weeks ago and it didn’t go well for him.
